Steps on how to Install a Program from your Computer onto your BlackBerry

Ada beberapa Add-on lagi dari Firefox seperti NoScript yang bisa mempercepat akses internet, tapi sayangnya kalau kebanyakan Add-on justru, kadang malah memperlambat akses dari browser Firefox sendiri.

C. Perbesar cache browser hingga 5% dari kapasitas Harddisk atau 1 - 2 GB

Cara ini terbukti efektif untuk mempercepat akses browser. Logikanya adalah browser tidak perlu tiap kali loading gambar dan tetek bengeknya segala setiap kali berkunjung ke situs yang sudah pernah dikunjungi, karena kalau situs sudah pernah dikunjungi akan otomatis di-cache oleh browser.

Cara ini hanya berlaku jika kapasitas harddisk netter cukup besar. Pada umumnya masing-masing browser ada yang bisa diset kapasitas cachenya, ada yang otomatis. Jika browser netter tidak ada pilihan set cache, artinya netter jangan sering-sering (atau tidak perlu) clear history di browser.

10 reasons why PCs crash U must Know

Fatal error: the system has become unstable or is busy," it says. "Enter to return to Windows or press Control-Alt-Delete to restart your computer. If you do this you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications."

You have just been struck by the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone who uses Mcft Windows will be familiar with this. What can you do? More importantly, how can you prevent it happening?

1 Hardware conflict

The number one reason why Windows crashes is hardware conflict. Each hardware device communicates to other devices through an interrupt request channel (IRQ). These are supposed to be unique for each device.

For example, a printer usually connects internally on IRQ 7. The keyboard usually uses IRQ 1 and the floppy disk drive IRQ 6. Each device will try to hog a single IRQ for itself.

If there are a lot of devices, or if they are not installed properly, two of them may end up sharing the same IRQ number. When the user tries to use both devices at the same time, a crash can happen. The way to check if your computer has a hardware conflict is through the following route:

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager.

Often if a device has a problem a yellow '!' appears next to its description in the Device Manager. Highlight Computer (in the Device Manager) and press Properties to see the IRQ numbers used by your computer. If the IRQ number appears twice, two devices may be using it.

Sometimes a device might share an IRQ with something described as 'IRQ holder for PCI steering'. This can be ignored. The best way to fix this problem is to remove the problem device and reinstall it.

Sometimes you may have to find more recent drivers on the internet to make the device function properly. A good resource is www.driverguide.com. If the device is a soundcard, or a modem, it can often be fixed by moving it to a different slot on the motherboard (be careful about opening your computer, as you may void the warranty).

When working inside a computer you should switch it off, unplug the mains lead and touch an unpainted metal surface to discharge any static electricity.

To be fair to Mcft, the problem with IRQ numbers is not of its making. It is a legacy problem going back to the first PC designs using the IBM 8086 chip. Initially there were only eight IRQs. Today there are 16 IRQs in a PC. It is easy to run out of them. There are plans to increase the number of IRQs in future designs.

2 Bad Ram

Ram (random-access memory) problems might bring on the blue screen of death with a message saying Fatal Exception Error. A fatal error indicates a serious hardware problem. Sometimes it may mean a part is damaged and will need replacing.

But a fatal error caused by Ram might be caused by a mismatch of chips. For example, mixing 70-nanosecond (70ns) Ram with 60ns Ram will usually force the computer to run all the Ram at the slower speed. This will often crash the machine if the Ram is overworked.

One way around this problem is to enter the BIOS settings and increase the wait state of the Ram. This can make it more stable. Another way to troubleshoot a suspected Ram problem is to rearrange the Ram chips on the motherboard, or take some of them out. Then try to repeat the circumstances that caused the crash. When handling Ram try not to touch the gold connections, as they can be easily damaged.

Parity error messages also refer to Ram. Modern Ram chips are either parity (ECC) or non parity (non-ECC). It is best not to mix the two types, as this can be a cause of trouble.

EMM386 error messages refer to memory problems but may not be connected to bad Ram. This may be due to free memory problems often linked to old Dos-based programmes.

3 BIOS settings

Every motherboard is supplied with a range of chipset settings that are decided in the factory. A common way to access these settings is to press the F2 or delete button during the first few seconds of a boot-up.

Once inside the BIOS, great care should be taken. It is a good idea to write down on a piece of paper all the settings that appear on the screen. That way, if you change something and the computer becomes more unstable, you will know what settings to revert to.

A common BIOS error concerns the CAS latency. This refers to the Ram. Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3. Newer SDRam has a CAS latency of 2. Setting the wrong figure can cause the Ram to lock up and freeze the computer's display.

Mcft Windows is better at allocating IRQ numbers than any BIOS. If possible set the IRQ numbers to Auto in the BIOS. This will allow Windows to allocate the IRQ numbers (make sure the BIOS setting for Plug and Play OS is switched to 'yes' to allow Windows to do this.).

4 Hard disk drives

After a few weeks, the information on a hard disk drive starts to become piecemeal or fragmented. It is a good idea to defragment the hard disk every week or so, to prevent the disk from causing a screen freeze. Go to

* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter

This will start the procedure. You will be unable to write data to the hard drive (to save it) while the disk is defragmenting, so it is a good idea to schedule the procedure for a period of inactivity using the Task Scheduler.

The Task Scheduler should be one of the small icons on the bottom right of the Windows opening page (the desktop).

Some lockups and screen freezes caused by hard disk problems can be solved by reducing the read-ahead optimisation. This can be adjusted by going to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System Icon-Performance-File System-Hard Disk.

Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. Do some housekeeping on your hard drive every few months and free some space on it. Open the Windows folder on the C drive and find the Temporary Internet Files folder. Deleting the contents (not the folder) can free a lot of space.

Empty the Recycle Bin every week to free more space. Hard disk drives should be scanned every week for errors or bad sectors. Go to

* Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-ScanDisk

Otherwise assign the Task Scheduler to perform this operation at night when the computer is not in use.

5 Fatal OE exceptions and VXD errors

Fatal OE exception errors and VXD errors are often caused by video card problems.

These can often be resolved easily by reducing the resolution of the video display. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Display-Settings

Here you should slide the screen area bar to the left. Take a look at the colour settings on the left of that window. For most desktops, high colour 16-bit depth is adequate.

If the screen freezes or you experience system lockups it might be due to the video card. Make sure it does not have a hardware conflict. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager

Here, select the + beside Display Adapter. A line of text describing your video card should appear. Select it (make it blue) and press properties. Then select Resources and select each line in the window. Look for a message that says No Conflicts.

If you have video card hardware conflict, you will see it here. Be careful at this point and make a note of everything you do in case you make things worse.

The way to resolve a hardware conflict is to uncheck the Use Automatic Settings box and hit the Change Settings button. You are searching for a setting that will display a No Conflicts message.

Another useful way to resolve video problems is to go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Performance-Graphics

Here you should move the Hardware Acceleration slider to the left. As ever, the most common cause of problems relating to graphics cards is old or faulty drivers (a driver is a small piece of software used by a computer to communicate with a device).

Look up your video card's manufacturer on the internet and search for the most recent drivers for it.

6 Viruses

Often the first sign of a virus infection is instability. Some viruses erase the boot sector of a hard drive, making it impossible to start. This is why it is a good idea to create a Windows start-up disk. Go to

* Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs

Here, look for the Start Up Disk tab. Virus protection requires constant vigilance.

A virus scanner requires a list of virus signatures in order to be able to identify viruses. These signatures are stored in a DAT file. DAT files should be updated weekly from the website of your antivirus software manufacturer.

An excellent antivirus programme is McAfee VirusScan by Network Associates ( www.nai.com). Another is Norton AntiVirus 2000, made by Symantec ( www.symantec.com).

7 Printers

The action of sending a document to print creates a bigger file, often called a postscript file.

Printers have only a small amount of memory, called a buffer. This can be easily overloaded. Printing a document also uses a considerable amount of CPU power. This will also slow down the computer's performance.

If the printer is trying to print unusual characters, these might not be recognised, and can crash the computer. Sometimes printers will not recover from a crash because of confusion in the buffer. A good way to clear the buffer is to unplug the printer for ten seconds. Booting up from a powerless state, also called a cold boot, will restore the printer's default settings and you may be able to carry on.

8 Software

A common cause of computer crash is faulty or badly-installed software. Often the problem can be cured by uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it. Use Norton Uninstall or Uninstall Shield to remove an application from your system properly. This will also remove references to the programme in the System Registry and leaves the way clear for a completely fresh copy.

The System Registry can be corrupted by old references to obsolete software that you thought was uninstalled. Use Reg Cleaner by Jouni Vuorio to clean up the System Registry and remove obsolete entries. It works on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), Windows Millennium Edition (ME), NT4 and Windows 2000.

Read the instructions and use it carefully so you don't do permanent damage to the Registry. If the Registry is damaged you will have to reinstall your operating system. Reg Cleaner can be obtained from www.jv16.org

Often a Windows problem can be resolved by entering Safe Mode. This can be done during start-up. When you see the message "Starting Windows" press F4. This should take you into Safe Mode.

Safe Mode loads a minimum of drivers. It allows you to find and fix problems that prevent Windows from loading properly.

Sometimes installing Windows is difficult because of unsuitable BIOS settings. If you keep getting SUWIN error messages (Windows setup) during the Windows installation, then try entering the BIOS and disabling the CPU internal cache. Try to disable the Level 2 (L2) cache if that doesn't work.

Remember to restore all the BIOS settings back to their former settings following installation.

9 Overheating

Central processing units (CPUs) are usually equipped with fans to keep them cool. If the fan fails or if the CPU gets old it may start to overheat and generate a particular kind of error called a kernel error. This is a common problem in chips that have been overclocked to operate at higher speeds than they are supposed to.

One remedy is to get a bigger better fan and install it on top of the CPU. Specialist cooling fans/heatsinks are available from www.computernerd.com or www.coolit.com

CPU problems can often be fixed by disabling the CPU internal cache in the BIOS. This will make the machine run more slowly, but it should also be more stable.

10 Power supply problems

With all the new construction going on around the country the steady supply of electricity has become disrupted. A power surge or spike can crash a computer as easily as a power cut.

If this has become a nuisance for you then consider buying a uninterrupted power supply (UPS). This will give you a clean power supply when there is electricity, and it will give you a few minutes to perform a controlled shutdown in case of a power cut.

It is a good investment if your data are critical, because a power cut will cause any unsaved data to be lost.

Before you spend a dime on security, there are many precautions you can take that will protect you against the most common threats.

1. Check Windows Update and Office Update regularly (_http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates); have your Office CD ready. Windows Me, 2000, and XP users can configure automatic updates. Click on the Automatic Updates tab in the System control panel and choose the appropriate options.

2. Install a personal firewall. Both SyGate (_www.sygate.com) and ZoneAlarm (_www.zonelabs.com) offer free versions.

3. Install a free spyware blocker. Our Editors' Choice ("Spyware," April 22) was SpyBot Search & Destroy (_http://security.kolla.de). SpyBot is also paranoid and ruthless in hunting out tracking cookies.

4. Block pop-up spam messages in Windows NT, 2000, or XP by disabling the Windows Messenger service (this is unrelated to the instant messaging program). Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and you'll see Messenger. Right-click and go to Properties. Set Start-up Type to Disabled and press the Stop button. Bye-bye, spam pop-ups! Any good firewall will also stop them.

5. Use strong passwords and change them periodically. Passwords should have at least seven characters; use letters and numbers and have at least one symbol. A decent example would be f8izKro@l. This will make it much harder for anyone to gain access to your accounts.

6. If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, use the current version or one with the Outlook Security Update installed. The update and current versions patch numerous vulnerabilities.

7. Buy antivirus software and keep it up to date. If you're not willing to pay, try Grisoft AVG Free Edition (Grisoft Inc., w*w.grisoft.com). And doublecheck your AV with the free, online-only scanners available at w*w.pandasoftware.com/activescan and _http://housecall.trendmicro.com.

8. If you have a wireless network, turn on the security features: Use MAC filtering, turn off SSID broadcast, and even use WEP with the biggest key you can get. For more, check out our wireless section or see the expanded coverage in Your Unwired World in our next issue.

9. Join a respectable e-mail security list, such as the one found at our own Security Supersite at _http://security.ziffdavis.com, so that you learn about emerging threats quickly and can take proper precautions.

10. Be skeptical of things on the Internet. Don't assume that e-mail "From:" a particular person is actually from that person until you have further reason to believe it's that person. Don't assume that an attachment is what it says it is. Don't give out your password to anyone, even if that person claims to be from "support."

TIPS MEMBELI BLACKBERRY

Anda jelas perlu memeriksa dengan teliti spesifikasi produknya.
Alasannya, banyak pengguna akhirnya tak bisa akses sama sekali layanan karena PIN disuspen (ditolak) atau sebelumnya menggunakan jenis layanan operator berbeda (PIN belum dirilis).

Salah satu cara mudah dalam persoalan spesifikasi ini bisa dilakukan dengan melakukan WIPE BlackBerry alias mereset secara manual perangkat agar data yang ada sebelumnya bisa hilang. Cara WIPE adalah sebagai berikut:
Masuk menu OPTIONS >> SECURITY OPTIONS >> GENERAL SETTINGS >> Tekan logo BlackBerry disamping gambar telepon hijau >> Pilih menu WIPE HANDHELD >> Ketikan tulisan BlackBerry. Proses WIPE pun berjalan.

Jika proses itu sudah tuntas, maka masukkan SIM Card Anda yang sudah bisa mengakses layanan BlackBerry.

Lihat logo tulisan di gprs/edge/3g di sebelah kanan layar ponsel Anda. Apabila tulisannya masih huruf kecil, kemungkinan besar PIN ponsel disuspen. Cara ini juga bisa memastikan bahwa memori selanjutnya akan kosong, tidak lagi terisi berbagai aplikasi bawaan dari pemilik sebelumnya.

Di sisi lain, Anda juga bisa mencoba memperbesar huruf kapital tadi dengan masuk menu OPTIONS, lalu ADVANCED OPTIONS, lalu HOST ROUTING TABLE, lalu klik simbol BlackBerry, dan selanjutnya pilih menu REGISTER NOW.

Apabila dua cara ini dilakukan dan huruf masih kecil, besar kemungkinan suspen atas personel identification number/PIN masih terjadi sehingga BlackBerry bekas hanya bisa menelepon dan SMS. Pembeli unit seken juga tak kalah penting memeriksa IT policy dengan melakukan sebagai berikut:

Masuk menu OPTIONS >> SECURITY OPTIONS >> FIREWALL. Jika muncul tulisan enabled dengan logo gembok merah di sebelahnya, maka BlackBerry bekas terkena kebijakan internet dari pengguna sebelumnya.
Kebijakan sebelumnya, misalnya BlackBerry Entreprise Service (BES), akan membuat Anda tidak bisa mengakses layanan internet di luar yang telah ditentukan sehingga kenyamanan berselancar di dunia maya akan terganggu.
Jadi, dua kunci utama dalam membeli BlackBerry bekas adalah memastikan bahwa PIN tidak disuspen dan layanan sudah bebas dari kebijakan pengguna sebelumnya (PIN sudah dirilis). Prosedur lainnya yang tidak kalah penting adalah memperhatikan kesesuaian nomor PIN dan IMEI di menu status dengan di dus BlackBerry Anda.
Jika ternyata berbeda, sangat disarankan untuk tidak dibeli daripada berabe di kemudian hari. Saran lainnya, sama saja dengan membeli ponsel standar. Misalnya kondisi barang (mulus atau tidak), kualitas microphone, tata letak keypad, efek vibrator, dan lainnya.

Yang jelas, membeli BlackBerry bekas tidaklah sesederhana seperti membeli ponsel bekas lainnya. Jangan sampai tertipu!

Langkah yang dilakukan adalah hidupkan BB - Option - STATUS lalu ketik BUYR. Kalo benar-benar baru Voice dan data usage harus 0, dan kalo isinya udah exceeded… berarti BEKAS (Ati2!)
Tapi kalo isinya baru 2.5 kb (masih dikit) mungkin dibuka untuk kebutuhan unlock. Tapi usahakan cari yang 0
Kondisi ke-2 ini beresiko untuk suspend jadi usahakan minta GARANSI PIN SUSPEND (dalam arti kalo suspend ditukar)
3. Your Account is already registered …..
Ada 2 kondisi :
a. Barangnya barang bekas (refurbished) dan udah pernah dipake dg provider kita (cek BUYR untuk memastikan)
b. Atau barang baru (BUYR=0) tapi pinnya udah diclone dan didaftarkan ke provider kita.
Kondisi 3 ini beresiko untuk suspend jadi usahakan minta GARANSI PIN SUSPEND (dalam arti kalo suspend ditukar)
4. Your Account is SUSPENDED……
Ngga bisa untuk BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) tapi hanya Tlp dan sms doang
Rekomendasi : JANGAN DIBELI !!!!!!

Kondisi suspend dikarenakan :
1. Kondisi PIN dan IMEI telah tercloning di tempat laen
2. Barang hasil curian
3. Barang yang belinya dengan sistem kontrak di LN tapi di bawa kabur ke sini
4. Ada masalah hukum lainnya.

Dah pada download Firefox 3 gak? Klu belum, tinggal download aja tuh gambar rubah merah di samping kiri blogku. Nha, bagi yang sudah mencoba kemampuan browser ini tentu pasti dah merasakan kenyamanan baik itu dari segi kecepatan dan keamanan. Namun, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Firefox-3.0 dibutuhkan sedikit pengaturan settingan tambahan. Sebenarnya siy tips ini sudah saya posting di sini, cuman kali ini settingan untuk mempercepat koneksi lewat Firefox 3.0 agak sedikit berbeda, so ga da salahnya kan postingan ini diulangi lagi, toh dunia ini bundar (halah..ga da hubungannya). Berikut saya posting kembali tips untuk menggandakan kecepatan browser Mozilla Firefox ini. Selamat mencoba.

1. Aktifkan browser Firefox-3.0 dan ketikkan perintah "about:config" (tanpa tanda kutip), di address barnya.
2. Kamu akan dibawa ke halaman konfigurasi Firefox-3.0. Kalau ada peringatan untuk hati-hati mengubah pengaturan pada halaman tersebut, klik yes atau ok saja.
3. Pada filter search bar di halaman konfigurasi, ketikkan "network.http.pipelining". Pastikan valuenya sudah diset dengan nilai "true". Jika masih "false", klik ganda untuk menjadikannya "true".
4. Kembali ke filter search bar, ketikkan "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests". Double klik pada opsi ini dan rubah nilainya (value) menjadi 8.
5. Kembali ke filter search bar, ketikkan "network.http.proxy.pipelining", double klik untuk merubah valuenya menjadi 'true'.
6. Kembali ke filter search bar, ketikkan "network.dns.disableIPv6". Double klik untuk merubah nilainya menjadi 'true'.
7. Klik kanan di halaman konfigurasi tersebut dimanapun terserah, pilih new -->boolean. Ketikkan "content.interrupt.parsing"pada popup windows yang muncul kemudian klik OK. Ketika prompt untuk pilihan muncul, pilih 'true'.
8. Kembali klik kanan halaman konfigurasi, pilih new --> integer. Ketikkan "content.max.tokenizing.time". Pada prompt value yang muncul masukkan nilai 2250000.
9. Kembali klik kanan halaman konfigurasi, pilih new --> integer. Ketikkan "content.notify.interval". Masukkan nilai 750000 pada prompt value yang muncul.
10. Kembali klik kanan halaman konfigurasi, pilih new --> boolean. Ketikkan "content.notify.ontimer". Pilih 'true' untuk isian prompt value yang muncul.
11. Kembali klik kanan halaman konfigurasi, pilih new --> integer. Ketikkan "content.notify.backoffcount". Pada prompt value yang muncul isikan value '5'.
12. Kembali klik kanan halaman konfigurasi, pilih new --> integer. Ketikkan "content.switch.threshold". Isikan nilai 750000 pada prompt integer value yang muncul.
13. Terakhir, kembali klik kanan pada halaman konfigurasi, pilih new -->integer. Ketikkan "nglayout.initialpaint.delay". Isikan nilai '0' pada prompt isian nilai yang muncul.

O ya, jangan lupa untuk merestart Firefox 3.0 nya.

Langsung saja dipraktekkan dan rasakan kemampuan dan kecepatan Firefox-3.0 milik ente meningkat dua kali lipat dibanding settingan default.

Format your USB using FAT32. Do not perform a quick format.

Download The Back Track 2.0 final.ISO and open it with your favourite extraction program.
Copy the Boot and Back Track directories from The Back Track ISO. And copy them to USB Drive.
Open the command prompt, by clicking Start-Run and typing CMD then press enter.
Change to the drive with your USB drive, if you don’t know how please leave to install backtrack to you thumb drive.
Type cd boot and press enter to change to the boot directory on your USB drive.

Type bootinst.bat and press enter to make your USB drive bootable, you be asked to press any key to countinue. Once the batch file complete you should to be able to restart machine and boot from the backtrack USB drive.

You can access this by going to what you want to search > Properties > Tools > Check now.

Delete shortcuts on your start menu. These can take ages to load and slow everything down. Don't go mental with files on your desktop either. I have none, there's just no need. How many internet browsers do you have? Too many programs can slow you down, and what's the point in having Opera, Internet Explorer Firefox and Safari? Just get one and stick to it. I have 2 - I use Firefox generally but sometimes Internet Explorer need to be use - on the Microsoft Updates site for example.

Finally, the big bang. Reformatting. If you computer is slow, programs don't work, you're missing vital components and you feel like it's time you bought a new computer, just reformat. As long as computer is fast when maintained, reformatting is a great way to get everything back to a high speed. But you'll have to re-install all programs and you would've had to back up important files. But hey, in desperate times, what else can you do.

Get an operating system on CD, boot your computer from CD and delete the old partition. Install the new one, and you're away!

Performance vs. Capacity

When you are out shopping for a new drive these are the two main factors you should take into consideration. Performance is based on a computer's drive controllers (connector types), the rotational speed and access times of the drive itself.

Capacity is basically a question of storage space and whether or not your current system can recognize and handle it or not.

Know your connector type

Modern computers can have several different styles of controller interfaces (connector types) and this will greatly determine what kind of drive you can fix into your machine.

The current standard is the IDE or ATA drive. ATA drives can have ATA/66, ATA/100 or ATA/133 connections. Every ATA slot can operate 2 separate devices (2 hard drives, 1 drive/CD or CD/DVD).

The newest drives have SATA (Serial ATA) connectors but can only run device per connector but at a much faster speed. Speaking of which...

The first thing you should find out when looking at a new hard drive is its rotational speed or RPMs (revolutions per minute). The higher the RPM rating a drive has, the faster it will work when in operation. Speed = better performance for both the Windows operating system and other software programs. The average RPM for a hard drive is either 5400 or 7200.

Seek Times. Occasionally you may hear some big time technical person mention the "seek times" for a drive. Seek times are measured in milliseconds and are basically a gauge of how rapidly a software program can locate the data it requires on a given hard drive.

Access times and seek times for our purposes are the same. Most modern home computers have a seek time of about 8ms. So a new drive with a seek time of 9ms is considered a bit slow.

So when looking at speed find the highest RPM matched with the lowest or average seek time.

Bigger is Better?

The next thing you should look at is a device's size or storage space. You ideally should get as big of a drive as you can afford. Hard drive capacity is measured in "megabytes" (million byte size: very old drives), "gigabytes" (billion byte size: current drives), and the very newest are "terabyte" drives (trillion byte size). Like in a house, you can never have "too much" storage room!

So now you know to get a drive with...

- 7200 RPM - Seek times of 8ms or lower - With as many Gigabytes as you can afford - Check with your PC manufacturer to be sure your new drive can be handled by your old computer

Now, first off, I'd like to say I'm not a hater of Apple products (I've owned many iPods). However, when it comes to the Apple MacBook Air, I have to say my piece. The MacBook Air itself is a wonderful machine, and a marvel of modern laptop design and engineering. However, for the mass consumer, I'd say there's a couple of good reasons why you don't want the MacBook Air as your laptop. This article explains this in more detail.

Reason 1: Only 1 USB Port
The first gripe comes from the fact that the MacBook Air has only one USB port. These days, two USB ports are the minimum for any laptop. Many laptops have three ports. Hence, in my opinion, the lack of sufficient USB ports seriously undermines the chances of the MacBook Air taking over laptop sales by a large margin.

Reason 2: It Lacks An Optical Drive
The lack of an optical drive might be a problem for some users. The optical drive is now standard in most laptops - most come with a DVD writer. Although the MacBook Air does provide the option of hooking to a shard optical drive on another machine, we feel it doesn't fully make up for the lack of the drive.

Reason 3: Price, Price, Price
And as usual, price is always a limiting factor. Considering the specifications of the Apple MacBook Air, the street price of about $1800 is way above many folks' budgets. Granted, Apple does deserve a premium in price due to the marvelous design and sleekness of the MacBook Air, but we still feel it is a tad too much in terms of price.

Reason 4: No ExpressCard Slot or Card Reader
The lack of an ExpressCard slot or card reader would deter many digital photography enthusiasts. Many laptops these days come with card readers integrated into the machine. I guess a workaround here is to capture images from your SD card via an external USB card reader, but to have that integrated would have been nice.

Reason 5: Low Battery Life
The Apple MacBook Air has been reported to run for only about 3 hours when using Windows Vista. Now that is pretty short. It'd cause problems for business travelers who need constant access to their files via the laptop. We suspect many of these folks would prefer the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 instead.

JAKARTA, SELASA - Peringatan bagi para penumpang pesawat yang akan bepergian dari dan ke Jakarta yang membawa komputer jinjing atau laptop atau notebook. Jangan sekali-kali membawa laptop dengan perangkat lunak (software) ilegal, karena pihak aparat siap melakukan razia dengan denda Rp 9,5 juta, yang mungkin lebih besar dari harga laptop.

Alexius, seorang manajer pada perusahaan swasta nasional yang sering bepergian ke luar kota kepada PersdaNetwork mengatakan, razia itu dia alami sepekan lalu, Kamis (29/5) di bandara Soekarno Hatta.

"Kepada mereka yang komputernya terinstalasi software-software tidak berlisensi, komputernya ditahan dan harus ditebus di polres khusus Bandara. Selanjutnya dilakukan sidang di tempat dan dikenakan denda sebesar Rp 9.500.000 per komputer," katanya di Jakarta, Kamis (4/6).

Info yang didapat, pemeriksaan komputer ini telah dilakukan selama seminggu oleh aparat kepolisian beserta Tim Perlindungan hak cipta atau Hak atas Kekayaan intelektual (HaKI) Departemen Hukum dan HAM beserta kepolisian di bandara, cafe-cafe dan tempat umum lainnya.

Kepala Administratur Bandara Soekarno-Hatta Cengkareng, Herry Bhakti membenarkan adanya razia laptop di bandara. Razia tidak ada kaitannya dengan keluar masuknya laptop ilegal. Pemeriksaan laptop terkait dengan keamanan bandara, misalnya terkait dengan aksi terorisme di bandara dan pesawat.

"Kita hanya memeriksa apakah laptop itu mengandung bahan peledak atau bisa menjadi pemicu ledakan, bukan legal tidaknya produsen laptop tersebut," kata Herry kepada PersdaNetwork di Jakarta, Rabu (4/6).

Mengenai razia komputer dan software ilegal itu bukan dilakukan pihak otoritas bandara. Pihak berwenang melakukan razia laptop ilegal adalah pihak kantor HaKI Departemen Hukum dan HAM. Herry memperkirakan kemungkinan razia tersebut dilakukan oleh pihak HaKI dengan kepolisian setempat. Akan tetapi razia tidak dilakukan di dalam terminal bandara saat penumpang akan keluar masuk.

"Kalau razianya dilakukan di luar terminal, pada saat penumpang mau masuk ya itu mungkin saja. Tetapi itu sama sekali tidak diketahui oleh pihak bandara," tegas Herry. (PersdaNetwork/Hendra Gunawan)

Tahukah kamu bahwa kecepatan koneksi internet dapat kamu tingkatkan dengan mengubah beberapa setting tertentu pada Windows. Walaupun sekarang sudah banyak software-software untuk mempercepat koneksi internet mungkin kamu tidak akan rugi untuk mengetahui

Cara mempercepat secara "manual" seperti yang tercantum di bawah ini:

Cara Pertama

1. Dari Control Panel, klik icon Modem.
2. Pada kotak dialog Modem Properties, pilih modem yang akan diubah settingnya dan klik pada tombol Properties
3. Pada tab General, ubah Maximum Speed menjadi 115200.
4. Pindah ke tab Connection dan klik tombol Port Setting.
5. Dari kotak dialog Advanced Port Setting, beri tanda check pada Use FIFO buffers.
Kemudian ubah Receive Buffer menjadi 14 dan Transmit Buffer menjadi 16. Lalu klik OK.
6. Klik button Advanced, beri tanda check pada Use Flow Control. Kemudian pilih radio button Hardware.Pada bagian Extra Setting, isi dengan &C1&D2E1Q0V1X4%C0 S7=55 S11=55 S0=0.

Cara Kedua

1. Dari Control Panel, klik icon System.
2. Pindah ke tab Device Manager.
3. Pada bagian Ports (COM & LPT), pilih port yang digunakan oleh modem Anda dan klik tombol Properties.
4. Pindah ke tab Port Settings.
5. Pada bagian Bits per second, isi dengan 921600.

Cara Ketiga

1. Buka file system.ini yang terletak di C:Windows.
2. Pada bagian [386Enh], tambahkan dengan COM1Buffer=16384. Ubah COM1 dengan port yang digunakan oleh modem.

Tips dan Trik Mempercepat Akses Internet

Saat anda browsing atau membuka suatu website di internet entah dari warung internet ataupun dari rumah, mungkin anda sering mengeluh akan lambatnya akses untuk menampilkan website tersebut. Padahal akses internet di Indonesia sekarang ini masih terhitung mahal. Sebenarnya ada cara-cara mudah untuk meningkatkan kecepatan akses internat anda tanpa harus membayar biaya lebih mahal. Beberapa diantaranya adalah dengan menyetting browser kita, menggunakan openDNS, dan menggunakan Google Web Accelerator.

Untuk menerapkan trik-trik tersebut sangat mudah. Cara pertama yaitu menyetting browser dapat dilakukan oleh pengguna Internet Explorer dan Mozilla Firefox. Bagi pengguna Internet Explorer klik menu [Tools] [Internet Option], klik tab [General]. Pada opsi "Temperory Internet files", klik [Settings] lalu Geser slider-nya. Hal itu untuk membuat cache (lokasi penyimpanan sementara) untuk web yang anda buka, sebaliknya disediakan sekitar 5% dari Hard disk.

Bagi pengguna Mozilla Firefox anda dapat mengetikkan "about:config" pada address bar,. setelah itu ubah "network.http.pipelining" dan "network.http.proxy pipelining" menjadi "true", serta isi "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" antara 30 –100 ( semakin besar semakin cepat ). Yang terakhir klik kanan dimana saja dan pilih New->Integer , tuliskan "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" lalu isi dengan 0.

Untuk trik kedua, pertama anda harus mendaftar di www.openDNS.com . Setelah itu masuk ke Control Panel dari start menu, pilih network connections lalu pilih koneksi anda dan klik tombol properties. Pada bagian Internet protokol anda bisa pilih TCP/IP dan klik properties. Masukkan angka 208.67.222.222 dan 208.67.220.220 pada opsi DNS dan restart komputer anda.

Setelah melakukan 2 tips di atas sekarang anda pasti akan mendapat kecepatan akses yang lebih kencang. Bagi yang masih belum puas dengan kecepatan aksesnya sekarang dapat menggunakan trik yang ke tiga yaitu Google Web Accelerator. Google Web Accelerator di desain khusus untuk mempercepat akses internet anda, khususnya anda yang menggunakan koneksi broadband (pita lebar) seperti Cable dan DSL. Untuk anda yang menggunakan koneksi lain seperti Dial-up (Telkomnet Instant atau Speedy) maupun satelit atau wave, Google Web Accelerator juga dapat mempercepat aksesnya.

Untuk memakai Google Web Accelerator anda harus memenuhi kriteria antara lain Operating System anda harus Windows XP atau Windows 2000 dan browser anda harus Internet Explorer 5.5+ atau Mozilla Firefox 1.0+. Kalau untuk browser lainnya sebenarnya juga bisa, tetapi anda harus meng-konfigurasi proxy settings dari browser anda dengan menambah 127.0.0.1:9100 pada HTTP. Setelah anda melakukan instalasi, Google Web Accelerator akan menampilkan icon kecil di atas browser anda dan icon tray di pojok bawah layar komputer. Anda dapat mengunduh Google Web Accelerator di http://webaccelerator.google.com .

Kegiatan spam yang semakin marak akhir-akhir ini di internet sangat mengganggu kita semua. Hal ini jelas juga mengganggu jalannya dunia bisnis dimana banyak perusahaan yang mengaku sangat dirugikan akibat dari e-mail spam ini. Spam sebenarnya bisa dicegah dengan mengubah pola berinternet kita supaya lebih aman dari gangguan spam. Bagaimana caranya? Melalui tulisan ini akan dibahas mengenai beberapa cara dalam menghindari spam. Gunakan software anti-spam Software anti-spam bisa mengurangi e-mail yang tidak Anda inginkan yang masuk ke mailbox Anda. Software ini tentunya juga membutuhkan bantuan Anda untuk bisa belajar mana e-mail yang berupa spam ataupun bukan.

Jangan pernah melakukan transaksi yang berasal dari penawaran e-mail yang tidak jelas Dengan Anda melakukan transaksi melalui e-mail yang sebenarnya adalah spam, maka Anda sudah terjebak dalam jaringan spam itu sendiri. Jangan pilih opsi-opsi yang disediakan oleh suatu website akan suatu informasi Seringkali jika Anda sedang mengisi formulir dalam suatu website, biasanya pada bagian akhir akan diberi beberapa pilihan (berupa checkbox) apakah Anda bersedia menerima informasi leih lanjut mengenai suatu hal. Hati-hatilah menghadapi hal ini. Anda harus benar-benar yakin dalam mencentang checkbox yang ada. Jika tidak yakin, pilihlah opsi yang benar-benar Anda inginkan. Jangan semuanya. Ini akan membuat Anda menerima e-mail yang sebenarnya informasinya tidak Anda butuhkan.

Jangan gunakan "preview mode" dalam e-mail client Anda Banyak spammer saat ini yang sanggup untuk melacak apakah e-mail spam mereka sudah dibaca oleh korban, bahkan jika Anda tidak mengklik apapun di dalam e-mail spamnya. Ini biasanya terjadi pada e-mail client yang ada fasilitas preview mode-nya sehingga si spammer bisa tahu apakah Anda sedang membuka e-mail spamnya. Ketika melakukan check e-mail sebaiknya matikan fasilitas previe mode dan hanya buka bagian subject atau judul e-mailnya saja.

Gunakan "bcc" jika Anda mengirimkan e-mail ke banyak pihak Bcc merupakan singkatan dari blind carbon copy. Ini digunakan untuk menyembunyikan daftar penerima e-mail dari user lainnya. Konsep kerjanya sama seperti "cc" (carbon copy) hanya saja kalau "bcc" tidak terlihat. Misalnya Anda mengirimkan e-mail kepada 50 orang teman Anda. Pada bagian to letakkan salah satu alamat e-mail target dan 49 alamat lainnya letakkan pada bagian "bcc". Dengan ini maka si spammer tidak akan pernah tahu alamat 49 e-mail yang lain dan hal ini akan membuat risiki spam semakin lebih kecil.

Sebaiknya tidak mempublish alamat e-mail penting Anda di internet Jangan publish e-mail Anda di website, newsgroup, mailing list, web forum dan lain sebagainya. Para spammer yang sangat pintar dewasa ini sudah mampu menggunakan program yang bisa melakukan surfing ke internet dan mengambil alamat e-mail yang ada di website dan lain-lain. Bahaya bukan?

Hanya berikan alamat e-mail penting Anda kepada orang yang Anda percaya Berikan alamat e-mail Anda hanya kepada kenalan atau orang-orang terdekat yang terpercaya saja. Lebih baik lagi jika mereka semua sudah mengerti mengenai bahaya spam ini.

Gunakan secondary e-mail address untuk kontak lainnya Sebaiknya Anda memiliki alamat e-mail tidak hanya satu buah. Ini penting jika Anda sering mendaftarkan e-mail Anda ke suatu website di internet. Ketika Anda mendaftarkan diri pada suatu website, maka Anda bisa gunakan alamat e-mail sekunder Anda sehingga tidak akan terlalu mengganggu Anda jika terkena spam.

JAKARTA, –Anda mungkin sering memakai search engine Google. Namun tidak semua orang bisa menggunakan Google Sites – group Website tool untuk membuat situs Web pribadi. Banyak produk menarik yang layak ditunggu tahun depan.
